10 Suggestions

It was recently revealed to that Namco Bandai Games and CyberConnect2 have a new iteration of Ultimate Ninja Storm in the works! The fighter was the most beautiful anime game to ever grace our world! The visuals were jaw-dropping! It truly blurred the line between anime and video games!

The first edition of Storm covered episodes 1-135 Naruto and featured intense 1-on-1 combat and a gigantic Hidden Leaf Village to roam around in freely. It was quite the fun to play, but by no means was it a perfect game.

Thanks to their work on Storm 1, Namco Bandai Games and CyberConnect2 have a solid foundation for the sequel. If they follow our 10 suggestions, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 has the potential to be one of the best games in the history of gaming!

10: Keep the Presentation, Improve the Load Times

There have been talks that Storm 2 will lose some of its beauty because the game is slated to be on 360 in addition to the expected PS3. The concern is justified seeing how the PS3-exclusive Storm had graphics vastly superior to both 360-exclusives, Rise of a Ninja and The Broken Bond. However, the 360 has shown time and again that it too is capable of beautiful graphics.

Being multi-platform, the question is can the developers pull off both PS3 and 360’s versions to be equally as beautiful and fluid as Storm 1? Or will one of the versions suffer?

In addition, the load times of Storm were really a downer. After a 12-minute install, we would expect the game to load lightning fast. Storm 2 needs to improve on load times, while keeping the same beauty and fluidity as the first.

9. No Downloadable Content

Most people would say “are you crazy!?!” We would say no. Think about it – the first Storm had downloadable content, but only support characters. It wasn’t too exciting to wait weeks for a download, only to not really use it. Downloadable content doesn’t work well with these types of games. The only games that it does work with are and those which allow the players to create and share content that can be playable (like
LittleBigPlanet). Unless CyberConnect2 has a huge surprise like customizable arenas and characters in store for us, we would say no to this. It creates false hope.

8. Multiplayer Mini-games

The first Storm had a couple of mini-games such as tree hopping, tree climbing, the giant boss battles, and find
Konohamaru. These games were fun at first, but became boring quick because they were a solo mission. Making all the mini-games multiplayer is a must. In addition, a little more variety is needed. Bringing back Nice Guy’s Exercises and Tenten’s Target Practice Dojo from Ultimate Ninja 3 would be nice inclusions.

7. Better Music

In Ubisoft’s Naruto games for Xbox 360, the thing that stood out most was it’s music. The music that was right from the show! Ubisoft’s Naruto games were a true joy to listen to and brought excitement of Naruto right to our ears!

The in-game music for all of the Ultimate Ninja games are decent, but not extraordinary. The music from the anime would be a great addition to UNS2. If the developers took best tracks from both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden and include it in UNS2 they would have what would arguably the best compilation of music in any game out there!

We understand that there may be some licensing fees associated with including the anime music. If that task is too expensive, fine, include music from the past Ultimate Ninja games, but allow us to use our own music! The PS3 and 360 are both capable of playing MP3s, so why not let the fans decide what they want to hear for themselves!

6. More Ultimate Specials

The ultimate special jutsus were beautiful in Storm. Absolutely gorgeous! The problem was that for most characters there was only one. There should be at least two or three for each character to increase the variety. There may be a button limitation to this, so like with normal jutsus the idea of being able to equip an ultimate special move would work well here. We wouldn’t mind seeing some of the ones from the first game make their way to the second, but a new ultimate jutsu each character in addition to the first would enhance the gameplay experience.

5. Co-Op Free-Roam with Some Variety

The free-roam aspect of Storm 1 was a nice addition, but it was lacking in a couple areas.
First of all, the environment was limited to the Hidden Leaf Village. UNS2 should expand to several environments – the Leaf, Sand, Akatsuki Hideout, and other places Naruto and company have traveled to. And these environments need to reflect the people correctly. The Leaf Village, for example, is a lively village, but in Storm 1 it looked somewhat deserted.

The second thing Storm 2 needs is less repetitiveness. In Storm 1, we had to do the same missions over and over. It was tiresome, annoying, and felt pointless to collect thousands of stupid scrolls and play the same mini-games over and over. UNS2’s free-roam needs to be a full blown adventure like a Mario or Sonic game where you travel different places, beating up enemies. Collecting scrolls and playing the mini-games would be a great complement to that to increase your life and abilities, but only if it’s included in moderation. It should not be the focal point.

The third thing Storm 2 needs is co-op! At least two friends should be able to play together. It’s really boring to play alone all the time. Of course single player should be an option, but there is a definite need for a second player to be able to jump in at any time. One could be Naruto and another could be Sakura, Kakashi, Sai, Sasuke, etc. It would be wise to not force players to always play as Naruto.

4. Four Player Battles

1-on-1 fights are great, and Storm’s system is one of the most fun out there, but if one or two more people can join in how much better does it get, right?! Think about Smash Brothers Brawl – one on one is decent, but if you two or even one people join in, it’s freaking intense!

You may be thinking Storm’s mechanics are nothing like Smash Brothers right? It’s true the 3D environment of the Storm engine possesses a challenge, but 4-player in Storm 2 can be pulled off nicely using split screens. Games like Halo make use of split screens quite well.

3. Interactive Environments

We’d like to see the landscape change after ginormous attacks like
Rasenshuriken. Not only that, we think being able to pick up things from the ground and throw them at opponents would be helpful. If an opponent throws a kunai and misses, we should be able to pick it up and throw it right back!

2. Characters
Naruto fans are all about the characters. We might not use Ino or Anko, but they should be in there. Include as many characters as possible. They need to be all playable. Here is a Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 character roster we would love to see:

1. Online

Is any explanation needed for this? Playing against friends all over the world is a MUST. Without online, Naruto
Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 will be a failure. Ignore all other suggestions, but do not ignore this one. There is absolutely no excuse. Include leaderboards, trophies, achievements, and whatever other gimmicks PSN and Xbox Live have. This is the key to unlimited replay value.
