Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Switch Confirmed for 2018

Posted on March 8, 2018

To the delight of Nintendo fans and fighting game fans, Nintendo has announced Super Smash Bros. is coming to the Nintendo Switch this year! When viewers thought the presentation was over, Nintendo pulled a nice surprising, announcing the game at the very end of their March 8, 2018 Nintendo Direct Presentation. The video for which they made the Smash Bros Switch announcement starts of with characters called Inklings from the Splatoon video game series, firing ink at one another, making it seem like there was additional DLC for Splatoon 2. After 30 seconds of the two Inklings firing off ink at one another, the video dims black, and focuses on one of the Inklings. Then a light appears and the Inkling turns around to the circular Super Smash Bros symbol engulfed in flames followed by an outline of Mario and Link. Finally, the video closes off with “SUPER SMASH BROS” and then “2018”.

Nothing else was revealed in regards to Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Switch. Many Nintendo Wii U titles such as Mario Kart 8 or Hyrule Warriors have seen a port to the Nintendo Switch so it’s unclear if Super Smash Bros will also be a port of the WiiU version or a totally new experience. We’re learning toward it might be a totally new experience as Nintendo generally mentions it being a “remastered” or “deluxe” edition of the game upon announcement.
