The excitement in the world of Dragon Ball continues with Dragon Ball Super! We’ve seen a host of characters from the Saiyan race transform into a higher power known as Super Saiyan. However, all those characters have been male; until recently when the newly introduced Saiyans Caulifla and Kale show how females take it to the next level!
In episode 92 (Emergency Development! The Incomplete Ten Members!!) of the series, we had the chance to see Caulifla transform into a Super Saiyan. This was the first official female Super Saiyan transformation in all of Dragon Ball. It comes almost 26 years after our hero, Son Goku, reached the same state in Dragon Ball Z episode 95 (Transformed at Last), which first aired on June 19, 1991. The difference between Caulifla and Goku’s transformation was Goku’s immense rage caused by Frieza killing Krillin. Caulifla simply focuses energy in her back to the point where it is tingly enough for her to transform. You can take a look at how Caulifla transforms in the video below.
Either this is a plot hole or one could argue this seems to be a short-cut to going Super Saiyan. Caulifla’s transformation is obtained through Cabba’s guidance in which he says there must be a tingly-like feeling in the back. It may be possible when one feels intense rage, this where energy focuses for a Saiyan before going Super Saiyan, including those from our Universe 7 with Goku and company. Of course that’s just a theory, we’ll have to wait and see if we get a further explaination in Dragon ball Super
However, Caulifla doesn’t stop there. She takes to a level even further beyond – Super Saiyan 2! To reach such a state, it has taken the Z fighters either harsh training or rage even greater than what they experienced to go Super Saiyan. Caulifla changes that by achieving this state relativity quickly without training or actual rage, but instead with the goal of saving Cabba’s life. You can see Caulifla going Super Saiyan 2 in the video below from episode 93 (You’re the Tenth Warrior! Goku Goes To See Frieza!!) which just aired today (June 4) in Japan .
Kale seems to follow the rage part of Super Saiyan, however, she transforms into a completely different state. As you will see in the video below, also from episode 93 of Dragon Ball Super, her Super Saiyan form seems to mimic a popular Dragon Ball Z movie villain – Broly! This state of Super Saiyan is known as the Berserker state. In this state, Kale acquires a green aura (rather than the traditional yellow) and a more muscular frame. Interestingly enough, when Kale takes this form, her clothes and bracelets grow with her body and they stay intact after the transformation. Her sleeves get ripped off in the transformation, however, when she return to her normal form (shown in the video above toward the end) her sleeves returned.
