Japanese publisher Shueisha has announced Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will be getting a Novel 2 on July 4 in Japan. The novel, as the title suggests, will be the second chapter in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations novel series. The contents of the novel are different from the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga.
The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga covers the events of Boruto: Naruto the Movie and after that time period. The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations novels have thus far covered the time period before the movie. In other words, the novels are covering what we are currently seeing in the TV anime. To be more specific, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Novel 2 is covering the Academy chapter of the series which focuses on Boruto at the ninja academy with Sarada, Shikadai, Inojin, and Chocho. There, a mysterious chakra is taking over people and changing their nature into a more violent one.
A man named Ko Shigenobu is credited as the writer for the novel while Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto is credited for the original work alongside Boruto manga artist Mikie Ikemoto and Boruto manga writer Ukyo Kodachi.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Novel 1 was released in Japan on May 2, 2017. Both Novel 1 and Novel 2 have 256 pages each. The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime made its debut on April 5, 2017 while the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga began publication on May 9, 2016 in Shuiesha’s Shonen Jump magazine. No word on how many novels there will be in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations or if they will make their way to North America.
Below are the covers for the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations novels. As numbered on the images, Novel 1 has Boruto and Shikadai on the cover while Novel 2 has Sarada and Chocho. The illustrations are from Novel 1 and, as mentioned earlier, show some of the content we’ve seen in the anime already. The first illustration shows Boruto defending his new friend Denki, which was also seen in episode 1 of the anime. The second illustration is of Shikadai and Metal Lee (who has been possessed by the the mysterious chakra), also seen in episode 3 of the anime. The third illustration is of Boruto and the boys vs Sarada and the girls, which was also shown in episode 4 of the anime.
