Warning: Naruto manga spoilers ahead

NARUTO vs SASUKE! As we posted earlier in the month, the end is near. In September, the Naruto Shippuden anime will feature the battle between the two rivals. It’s expected (although not yet confirmed), the Shippuden anime will catch up to Masashi Kishimoto’s completed masterpiece this year.

According to a wraparound jacket on an official Naruto book in Japan, New Hidden Leaf Village Story: Steam Ninja Scrolls, the Naruto anime will shift focus to life after chapter 699 of the Naruto manga. In particular, the Naruto anime will adapt the official Naruto books focused on Shikamaru, the Hidden Leaf Village, and Sasuke (all three books pictured below). Shikamaru’s story takes place 2 years after the final fight between Naruto and Sasuke. The first book on the Hidden Leaf Village to be animated takes place several months after the final fight between Naruto and Sasuke. The book on Sasuke takes place sometime after he leaves the Village on his journey seeking retribution.

So far, 10 official Naruto books have been released in Japan – two on Itachi, one on Kakashi, one on Shikamaru, one on Sakura, one on Sasuke, two on the Hidden Leaf Village, one on Akatsuki, and one on Gaara. The Itachi books were already animated earlier this year.

It’s unclear if the contents of the up-coming three books will be a part of Naruto Shippuden or not. It’s also unclear if Naruto Shippuden will show chapter 700. Anime Games Online hopes to let you know as soon as it’s announced!
