Bleach Manga Ends, Live Action Movie in 2018 [No Spoilers]

Posted on August 18, 2016

15 years in the making! The 38th issue of Shuiesha’s Weekly Shonen Jump officially releases on Monday, August 22 and it will contain the final chapter of Kubo Tite’s Shinigami manga, Bleach! The series began in 2001, although it seemed many more stories could have been told in the universe. To the surprise of fans, the announcement of the manga was ending was made last month. We at Anime Games Online won’t reveal the ending, but the sudden end of the manga may be due to the next phase in the Bleach franchise – a live action movie!

Kubo-sensei, who wrote and drew the manga, will take an active role in the movie’s production so it will not only be enjoyable for newcomers, but also satisfy long-time fans. Kubo-sensei does wonder how the movie will handle the hair color of characters since it might be strange to have orange or red-heads in a live action movie.

Speaking of orange hair, the first actor has been cast as well – Sota Fukushi. He will star as the franchise’s protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki. Fukushi has been in other manga-based live-action movies as well, including Library Wars, Strobe Edge, and Kamisama no Iutoori. As you see below, Fukushi’s natural hair color is black.

The live action Bleach movie will be directed by Shinsuke Sato, who directed the live-action Gantz movies, and will open in Japanese theaters sometime in 2018.

The Bleach live action movie was officially announced back in 2012. Major film studio Warner Bros and American anime licensor Viz Media were behind the announcement back then, however, neither company has been mentioned with this 2018 adaptation. No news has been announced in regards to a Bleach anime either, which ran 366 episodes from 2004 to 2012, starting with the beginning of the Bleach manga to chapter 479 (the The Lost Substitute Shinigami arc). Anime Games Online hopes to have additional information in regards to the Bleach live action movie (and anime if anything transpires) as it is announced.
