Warning: Naruto Shippuden anime spoilers ahead
At the end of April in Naruto Shippuden episode 458, the sinister Madara Uchiha was taken over by the proginator of chakra, Kaguya Otsutsuki, signaling the conclusion of seven months of fillers and the start of canon! Or so we thought. Remember back in December 2015 when we reported Studio Pierrot, the company that animates Naruto, has mentioned the Kaguya arc is coming and it will be “original”. We at Anime Games Online weren’t sure if it meant an original arc (fillers) or if it meant follow the original manga story (canon) created by Naruto author, Masashi Kishimoto.
Well, with the release of the May 2016 schedule, it’s been confirmed there is a bit of both – canon and fillers. Episode 459 is canon. On May 12 and May 19, with Naruto Shippuden 460 and 461, we will see an expanded backstory on Kaguya. Since the complete backstory isn’t in the manga, it’s classified mostly as filler. Then we will return to canon with Naruto Shippuden 462.
