Update: The Movie Has Been Delayed to January 2015

SM Cinema, the largest film exhibitor in the Philippines, has announced on their Twitter page The Last: Naruto the Movie will be heading over to theaters in the country on December 17, 2014! That’s just 11 days after the Japanese release of December 6. SM Cinema has mentioned the list of locations where the movie will show has not yet been finalized so fans should stay tuned. Aside from that, the release date and poster below, no additional information was revealed.

No information for any other countries has been announced either, but the Philippines announcement makes us optimistic! The up-coming November 25th home release of Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie will mark the first time in history America and Japan have an equal amount of Naruto movies available for sale. This adds to our optimism here at Anime Games Online and gets us excited because it means there may be hope for an earlier-than-normal release of The Last: Naruto the Movie for other countries. Viz Media, the North American licensor for Naruto tested the waters earlier this year through a limited theatrical run of Road to Ninja across the US and Canada. Was their run successful? We aren’t sure, we hope so, but the movie was released well over a year after the Japanese DVD release so it’s possible it may not have been.

Why is the Japanese DVD release so important? Fans will get a hold of the movie and subtitle it in English within a week of its release, which decreases the chance of other fans watching the movie in theaters. Traditionally, Naruto movies in Japan are released in July, with the DVDs hitting retailers at the end of April or early May. Naruto’s latest adventure is the exception, as its being released in December. By our calculation, that would mean The Last: Naruto the Movie’s DVD would have a Japanese release of September or October 2015. If that holds true, Viz Media has a 9-10 month window to gain maximum value for the movie. We all want to see the movie as soon as possible, and we’re sure most are willing to pay the $10-$14 USD admission price to do so, so hopefully our wishes can become a reality. With millions of Naruto fans in the US, Canada, and all of the English-speaking countries in the world, we certainly think it would be a hit!

For now, The Last: Naruto the Movie is only confirmed for a release in Japan and Philippines. If any other regions are announced, we hope to let you know right here on Anime Games Online!
