The Japanese branch of Bandai Namco Games has announced (quoted text below) a Dragon Ball Xenoverse network test for the PlayStation 3 owners. This is a playable demo that will be accessible from the Japanese PlayStation Network, however, unlike most demos where anybody can just download and play, this one there will be limited to lucky winners of a lottery. Unless Bandai Namco/Dimps have region-locked it, anybody with a Japanese PlayStation Network account should be able to enter the lottery, but only a few of the entrants will be selected.
When can the lottery be entered?
Starting August 21, 2014 at 9:00 PM JST to midnight on September 18, 2014
How can players enter the lottery for a chance to play Dragon Ball Xenoverse?
Between the dates mentioned above, players must “Search” the Japanese PlayStation Store for ネットワークテスト用応募券 (which means “Entry Ticket for Network Test”) and then click the “Download” button on the Dragon Ball Xenoverse item that shows up. Doing this will enter you into the selection pool.
How will players be selected?
It will be random. Players who are selected will only be able to play the network test on the account they registered with and they will be notified of their selection by e-mail.
When will selected players be notified and when can they play?
There will be two rounds of the Dragon Ball Xenoverse network test. The first round of selected players will be notified on September 19, 2014. The test will run over a 27-hour period from September 20 at 9:00 p.m. JST to midnight on September 22, 2014. The second round of selected players will be notified starting October 3, with their test also running for 27-hour period from October 4 at 9:00 p.m. JST to midnight on October 6th.
The first round of testing is only for Japan, while the second round will be worldwide. The second round of the test will have additional features not in the first round.
What about a network test in other countries?
It’s likely Bandai Namco Games America and Europe will have their own first round of testing for Dragon Ball Xenoverse. They have already announced there will be a closed beta and that details will be announced in the future. Our guess is the first round is to test how online gameplay works when playing with players from their own region, while the second round is to test the network when players interact with those worldwide. Anime Games Online will of course share additional details on this network test / closed beta with you as soon as they are announced!
A network test is a pre-release inspection where individuals selected randomly as testers play the game in advance of the official start of service.
By performing a network load test, we will inspect various technologies of the online system. We await everyone’s participation in order to make Dragon Ball XENOVERSE even better.
Concept: The Dragon Ball XENOVERSE network test will be performed with the following as its objectives. This test will be in order to check the game system and to correct issues with it. Because of this, the game data is still under development, and some issues may arise during play. We request your understanding and acceptance of this fact.
Server Load Inspection: We will conduct simultaneous connections under specific conditions, and inspect gameplay with the game server, under load.
Multiplayer Inspection: We will conduct an inspection of various phenomena that arise with many people participating, such as troubles that arise with players doing multiplayer through different network environments.
Gameplay, System Inspection: We will conduct miscellaneous bug inspections and balance adjustments related to actual gameplay.
