Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie Grosses Over 1 Billion Yen

Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie is a success! Since it’s July 28th release in Japanese theaters, it has had gross sales of over 1 billion yen ($12.7 million USD)! In order to commemorate the milestone, Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, has drawn a picture of Naruto and his alternate reality equivalent, Menma!

Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie has had a 177.1% increase in viewership when compared to last year’s movie, Blood Prison. At 1.37 billion yen (about $17.4 million USD today), only the very first movie in the series, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, had a larger gross.

Also known as Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Road to Ninja, Naruto Shippuden Movie 6, among others, Road to Ninja is the 9th movie overall in the Naruto series. It debuted in Japanese theaters on July 28, 2012. Naruto’s creator, Masashi Kishimoto was personally involved with the movie, creating the story and providing character designs.
