Viz Media, the great company behind Naruto, Bleach, and the One Piece manga in North America, has announced that it will launch a 24-hour anime streaming service called Neon Alley! Debuting this Fall in the United States and Canada as a a subscription-based service, Neon Alley will cost $6.99 USD per month and contain limited commercial advertising.
All anime shown will be uncut, dubbed in English, and in HD (when available). According to it’s website, Neon Alley will play host to English dub premieres of Naruto Shippuden, Tiger & Bunny, Inuyasha: The Final Act, and Zetman, Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne. Old favorite such as Naruto (part 1), Death Note, Kekkaishi, Vampire Knight will also be available in addition to original event programming, specials, and movies.
According to Viz Media’s Vice President of Animation, Brian Ige, the purpose of Neon Alley is to provide an outlet of high-quality anime coming over from Japan. Especially since there aren’t enough opportunities to do so on traditional TV and cable networks, Neon Alley delivers the potential to draw in casual viewers and those who love English dubs.
Neon Alley is not an on-demand service. Rather, it will be similar to a television channel, airing a feed of shows at certain times of the day. The service will launch on game consoles connect to the Internet this Fall. It’s unclear as to what console(s) the service will launch on at this point in time, but Anime Games Online would recommend they go for all three – PS3, 360, and particularly Wii U to potentially gain the most viewership!
